Trudeau, Poilievre, and Singh need to stop wasting our time
Paul and I talk politics in this video! We talk about what is important to us and what ideally we would like our elected officials to focus on (both provincially and federally).
Topics that come up are housing, health care, foreign workers, environment, platform promises, and corruption!
We were born and raised in Alberta where we lived in rural and urban settings. In our mid-thirties, we moved to Southern BC. We still have family in Alberta as well as in other provinces.
Thanks for watching!

    In the short time that Smith has been here, housing has gotten way more expensive, healthcare is bleeding doctors (and looking to be privatized), we're getting little support for the chaos of the wildfires, there's been repeated blackouts, and Calgary had a whole month without water. BC has it's problems but trust me, having seen cronies that never lived here before come here with actual confederate flags hanging from their garage doors like roaches should be a HUGE red flag; the people coming here are hoping to see Alberta become the new Florida. In short, don't come here.

    We had only 24 hours to pack up our things and leave due to foreclosure. My dad drove us (and my cat and his parrot) in a U-Haul from Campbell River, across to Vancouver, then up to Prince George to drop off his and my brother's things. Finally, we drove all the way to Wainwright, where I moved in with a friend. He dropped off the U-haul in Vermillion and took a bus back to PG. It was a solid 20 hours of driving just to AB for him. Eight years later, I'm getting ready to move back to BC and be closer to my family again. It feels terrifying to plan a big move now but this video makes me feel like I can pull it off.

    I think it's instructive that my ancestors moved to Nova Scotia to work tge fisheries until the fish were gone, they moved to BC until forestry fell off and now they're waking up to the fact that oil and gas arent forever. Let's see what the next thing is before jumping into a region and an industry in decline.

    i transferred to northern ab 6 years ago. i'm not lovin' it. expensive food, back home people complained about having $120+ utility bills every 2 months from NSP, but its $130 per month provider fee and even more fees added before you even pay for your power and gas usage. i've had 4 doctors, and just lost my recent one that hasen't been here for a year yet. also living rural i can't make any friends as i didn't grow up here, and go to school with the locals so i'm an outsider. they are nice, and have small talk, but not coming to your house, or inviting you over for a game or bbq. also the crime is crazy here. people are constantly being robbed, b&e's, vehicles stolen, meth attics everywhere, prisoners just being dropped off in the middle of town, and overwhelmed police that arrest these newly released meth heads, and criminals withing the first few days of release. then they are just released again the same day, and the locals know who most of them are. when your car is stolen the police don't even go after them as they are non violent crimes, and they just say make an insurance claim. crime and the -40's are the worst things for me next to the loneliness

    • @LiveontheSunshineCoast
      @LiveontheSunshineCoast Місяць тому

    Don't forget the business's on the coast have a Sunshine Coast tax, aka gouging every one. Try going somewhere on the ferry in the summer without a reservation, you have to have that reservation 3 months in advance or forget it. Most people that I know that have left the coast have moved because they're sick of being held hostage by the ferries.

    • @LiveontheSunshineCoast
      @LiveontheSunshineCoast 2 місяці тому

      Sailings every hour would solve a lot of problems. The one thing I learned about reservations, is if they're full, keep checking every few days because closer to the sailing people with reservations may have canceled or BC Ferries may have released more reservation spots.

    I bought my home in Elphinstone 1988 for $92,000.00.Now appraised at $1.2 million.I f I want to move I can’t replace it.groceries are 20 percent more than in the city.the ferries suck.the traffic sucks.the traffic enforcement sucks.The roads are inadequate.Iniust got a letter from my doctor saying I don’t have a doctor anymore.He’s moving just like I’d like to do but can’t afford to.The water crisis sucks.every year our water tax goes up and they keep rationing the water.In one case the increase was 43%.And I can’t water my vegetables in the summer.trying to grow food that I can’t afford at the stores.My family has ties to the coast from the 1920’s where they worked and built a community that used to be a nice place to live.the short term rentals have ruined our beach with smoke and fire and garbage at all hours of the day and night.Newbies come here to live because they like the milk and honey or do they think.then they find out there is no Home Depot or Walmart and whine like spoiled children.They hate the highway they want a bridge they don’t like the float planes at Sechelt it goes on and on.if you leave the city to find your utopia you’re looking in the wrong place.

      Lots of change in that time. I suppose that can be true for a lot of places. I do think at least you're lucky to have a nest egg in the property. Not that you care to hear this but the younger generation doesn't have a chance to get into home ownership without financial help. If they're lucky enough to get that backing. For most Gen Z and some Millennials, I don't know how they'll reach a place of financial stability/security with the cost of living where it's at now.

    I'm not too familiar with Danielle Smith.. could someone enlighten me why she is considered insane by some?

    • @LiveontheSunshineCoast
      @LiveontheSunshineCoast 2 місяці тому

      This is an abbreviated list of why I doubt her sanity. It was depressing to put together. The longer I look, the more there is to add to the list. I didn't include current things like the proposed Alberta Pension Plan no one wants or the proposed Alberta Police Force that no one wants or the proposed coal mine in the Rocky Mountains no one wants. In 2021, Danielle Smith, before she was premier, wrote a paper about why Albertans need to accept that they'll have to pay for private healthcare. Now that she's premier, she's done a 180 and says no Alberta will ever have to pay out of pocket for healthcare while she's actively dismantling public healthcare in Alberta. Danielle Smith claims to be of Cherokee decent. A Cherokee genealogist reviewed Smith's family tree and said Smith's statement is untrue. Danielle Smith claimed that her great-grandfather fled Ukraine after the First World War to escape communism. Immigration records show he left Austria (not Ukraine) prior to the start of WW1. When she was running for leadership of the United Conservative Party, Danielle Smith said people could control whether or not they got cancer. She also insinuated that by preventing yourself from cancer, you’d be saving taxpayers money. Danielle Smith was originally a member of the Progressive Conservative political party. She jumped ship to the Wildrose Party in 2009, a party which she'd eventually lead. In 2014, when she was leader of the Wildrose, she crossed the floor to rejoin the PC party. Danielle Smith spent $80M on Turkish pain medication that wasn't approved by Health Canada. According to the UCP's own documents, the medication increased the risk of a life-threatening illness in neonatal patients. Out of 1.5M bottles that were ordered and paid for, only about 9,000 were ever sent to hospitals. Danielle Smith is advertising for people to move to Alberta while the province is in the midst of a housing crisis, rising unemployment, and declining wages. Danielle Smith launched a seven-month moratorium on renewable-energy projects, despite the CEO of the independent Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) stating he was opposed to the idea.

      @@LiveontheSunshineCoast no it isn't a improvement ! It completely destroyed it. It's absolutely disgusting and completely heartbreaking what has happened to the sunshine coast.

    Keep your furniture to a minimum... Stay single... The world is in decline... Keep it simple... We will go through a huge reset where the world will reset itself... just like last time. 1902 was the last time it appears... All Fortune 500 companies started in 1902.... We were very advanced in the past... History is deception...

    5% vs 12% 🌧️ vs ☀️ Homeless Drug Users ……

    • @LiveontheSunshineCoast
      @LiveontheSunshineCoast 2 місяці тому

      Alberta has the third highest number of homeless in Canada (Ontario is first and BC is second). BC has the highest number of drug deaths per hundred thousand. Alberta has the second highest. We're not saying that Alberta's a dump or that you shouldn't live there. The point we're making is that Alberta is no longer the obvious destination for high wages and affordable housing.

    Your info is way out to date , my insurance is better structured and cheaper in Alberta than in BC. Total all your insurance than compare.

    First off admire anybody that contributes to social media. Most of what you covered could be anywhere in BC excepte for the ferries. I live in the Comox Valley, Gabriola before that. Watched all this happen in Nanaimo and recently Comox Valley. Cheers!

    Bottom line, if you hate Alberta, just stay where you are, grow where you are and build up your paradise where you are. Meanwhile, your healthcare criticism of Alberta is very anecdotal - I live in Southern Okanagan as well as Southern Alberta, and I'd far rather have Alberta healthcare which is the best of a bad lot in Canada. I have much greater access to several medical specialists on a fairly timely basis in Alberta whereas BC is growing far worse. For those living in BC's Interior Health in areas like Cranbrook, they sometimes have to endure huge costs of transporting and multi-day hotel stays in Vancouver to get specialist care. Bottom-line, just because you hate Alberta doesn't mean everyone else will hate it as well. BC is a lovely beautiful province, but basically it is only a great place to visit, not to live - unless you are coming to BC with lots of money. PS. You hate Alberta's Premier but say Albertans would be great for pulling you out of a ditch. I dare say that Premier Smith would stop to help you, offering kindness as well. Just because you hero-worship your home province BC NDP government, doesn't merit putting down Alberta the way you have in this video. Stick to analysis of living in your own Province without mean-spirited put-owns of the politics and living environments of other Provinces.
